vivo V40 5G Review

The Vivo V series was one of my favorite mid-range smartphones over the last few years. It wasn't perfect, but it did succeed in some aspects with photography. The V30 series, especially the V30 Pro, had one of the best cameras in the segment, as it was co-developed with Zeiss.

But there's one problem with the V30 Pro: it wasn't the most affordable, retailing for PHP 34, 999. While the regular V30 cells were worth it, they didn't have the optics that make up Zeiss.

But now Vivo Philippines has introduced the V40 series, and today we'll be looking at the V40 5G. It's not a pro model, but it's already equipped with a Zeiss camera. It also fixes other issues with the V line, and most pleasingly, the price is quite acceptable, at least on paper.

Still, is it worth upgrading to the new model, especially for those who just ordered the V30 Pro earlier this year? Well, to find out, I suggest you read on.

Table of Contents

Design and Construction

In terms of design, the Vivo V40 5G has not undergone any major changes compared to the V30 series. The delicate design and form factor remain the same. In comparison, the device is only 7, 58mm thick, making it easier to put in your pocket.

The back panel maintains its minimalist design with the vivo logo on the bottom left. Most of the design changes can be found in the camera island. Instead of two squares, it now has a rounded shape, with dual rear cameras in the upper half and Vivo's patented Auralight backlight in the lower half. Of course, the Zeiss logo is now more prominent.

The curved body design makes it comfortable and easy to hold even with one hand. The volume and power buttons are on the right side, within reach of your fingers.

At the bottom, there is a USB-C port, a slot for two SIM cards, and a speaker. The left and top sides are as clean as ever, but the headphones now perform the dynamics function. Yes, the dual speakers have finally arrived on the Vivo V40.

The color V40 5G is also very nice. Our device comes in a Nebula-Purple color, which matches well with what Vivo calls the new Gemini Ring design style.

For protection, the phone is IP68-rated and waterproof, and I verified this when I used it during last week's typhoon.

Overall, I like the subtle design changes that vivo made from the V30 to the V40 5G. Although minimal, there was nothing wrong with the V30 design to begin with. Instead, vivo decided to change something important.

Display and Multimedia

In terms of the display, the vivo V40 5G has a 6. 78-inch 1. 5K Ultra Clear Sunlight Display (2800x1260 resolution) curved AMOLED display with HDR10+ support. Some may think that this is a carryover of the specs, but that is not the case.

As expected of this display, the colors are great and you can get deep blacks that really stand out when watching dark videos. I like the thin and almost bezel-less design because it blends in better with the footage. Moreover, it is SGS certified for blue light, low flicker, etc. It is also protected by Schott Alpha Glass.

The maximum brightness is 4. 500nits, which, as the name suggests, is perfect for outdoor use and can be used in bright sunlight. This allows you to see everything that happens on the screen even when you are shooting content outdoors.

The refresh rate is 120Hz, which allows for smooth animations while browsing through menus, web pages, and your favorite TV shows. But where I really liked the 120Hz refresh rate was in gaming, but more on that later.

My favorite upgrade on the V40 5G is probably the dual stereo speakers. I have been waiting for vivo to add stereo speakers to the V series since the V27, and now they finally have them.

These dual stereo speakers are more than enough for watching videos with a group. They have good clarity and a decent soundstage, but like other phone speakers, they lack bass. But most importantly, they are loud. And because they are stereo speakers, you don't have to worry about blocking the bottom speaker with your fingers.

Cameras

Now, where the vivo V40 5G really shines - the camera.

As mentioned before, the vivo V40 5G has a dual camera on the back. Will the V30 5G have a triple camera on the back? In the V30 series, only the V30 Pro was equipped with a Zeiss camera. Now, the standard model, the V40 5G, is equipped with a Zeiss camera.

It is equipped with a 50MP main Zeiss OIS camera that combines 1/1. 56 inch Samsung Isosel GNJ with OIS and 50MP Zeiss Ultra Wide Camera. There is also a 50MP front camera with a 9 2-degree review angle for selfie. Especially if you want to shoot portraits, landscapes, and group shots.

Thanks to Zeiss's mult i-focus portrait function, a different focal length can be selected when shooting in portrait mode. However, it can be adjusted in portrait mode not only in the focal length, but also in F0 and 95, but personally remains F2. 8 or F1. 4. You can also choose the type of silk in the photo from the menu.

As expected, the photos are wonderful and it's clear that they are jumping compared to the previous model. Especially in portrait shooting, you can get a clearer image, more beautiful and beautiful aspects.

Switching to Zeiss mode reduces saturation, but becomes more natural. However, I noticed that it was sometimes too fit. Look at Mustang's photos and compare them with other photos of the gallery. That is not bad, and I like the flow of images.

With the growing matrix of the main camera, you can take better photos than the light enough or at night. By combining it with OIS, handheld shooting in lo w-agency makes it easier. The noise and granularity have been reduced, and the details are improved.

There is also an aura light function that illuminates dark photos brightly. But don't lose hope. If the room is almost dark and the light source is only an auralite, this phone will not be easy yet.

Please look at the gallery below for how much the V40 5G camera impressed us.

But, of course, the camera is not just for shooting. V40 5G can also shoot wonderful videos. The most eas y-t o-use resolution is 4K@30fps, but this is too enough if you plan to create content.

Correction can be used freely even for 4K. There is also an ultr a-stable mode, but it is limited to 1080p. Compared to 4K shooting, the lower image quality is clear. Personally, I think the standard image stabilization is more than enough, so I only need to be still at 4K. < SPAN> A 50MP main Zeiss OIS camera that combines 1/1. 56 inch Samsung Isosel GNJ with OIS and 50MP Zeiss Ultra Wide Camera. Battery and Connectivity

Especially if there are two or more people in front of the camera, it is not perfect, but it can be used without any problems with single shots.

Watch the estimated video below and check with your own eyes.

Vivo V40 5G operates under the control of Android 14 covered with Skin Funtouch 14. This is a valuable operating system and nothing special. If you are using another smartphone on Android 14, you can use it without any discomfort.

A normal split screen, a floating window, etc. can be used. If you play games, you can use boost mode to enhance gameplay. Needless to say, the V40 5G OS also works smoothly. There is no lag even if it is set.

Conclusion

Interestingly, the maximum resolution of 2800 x 1260 is not set. However, in order to maximize the ability of the mobile phone, it can be easily adjusted by setting.

What I didn't like in V40 5G was the number of internal software attached to my mobile phone. It's not about a buil t-in application that may be useful. The folder is divided for each game or application, and you will always delete it.

Applications such as pr e-installed Facebook, Tiktok, and Lazada are wonderful, but they are almost useless and can't find a place.

Under the Vivo V40 5G bonnet, Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is mounted, 12GB RAM and another 12GB extension RAM are combined, working at only 24GB. The data storage is available in a buil t-in memory of up to 512GB, which can be used for all applications to install, photos and videos. Unfortunately, there is no more MicroSD card slot for memory extension.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset overtook us with V30 5G, but its value has not changed to this day. At work, V40 5G processed almost everything I asked. From everyday tasks to hig h-graphic games, V40 5G should be able to handle.

I was able to play the phantom impact and ZZZ without any problems, and I was able to increase the graphic settings to enjoy the game more. What I was most happy about was that the mobile phone did not get hot after playing for one hour.

In fact, it was a basic, including a lon g-term game, and the incidence and delay of workers were observed. This method allows you to run for several hours with this mobile phone. The best game s-There is also a game acceleration mode that can shorten the battery life for skills. It is wonderful, taking into account the fact that this host's mobile phone is specialized in photography.
